THE South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) Westall sponsored Swimming squad recently attended the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for a 2-day camp.
The camp, held as a start to the squad members’ 12-month scholarship program,
is an annual activity that is proving to be very useful for the development of the athletes and the knowledge of the program staff.
Members received their uniforms prior to a photo session and also participated in an interactive sport psychology session arranged by the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS).
The session was a forerunner to an ongoing program of sport psychology techniques squad members will be exposed to for the duration of their scholarships.
Other activities were a workshop on public speaking and a training session in the AIS pool.
Day two commenced with a pool session with AIS Head Coach, Pierre La Fonteine, who spoke about the motivation behind the sport and imparted his knowledge on freestyle sprint training and streamlining.
The athletes then addressed by an AIS scholarship holder on what life is like being an AIS athlete.
The camp ended with a pool session conducted by the SERAS program staff.
