BECAUSE of their exploits, parenting our two single children has caused our faith in the Lord’s provision and protection to be stretched to the limit at times!
We have found that it is not easy when a child decides that they are going overseas for some `life adventures’.
Our daughter put us through a great deal of anxiety by going to South Korea to teach English for a year.
Last year, she turned our hair grey overnight, when she went on a two month tour of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia … on her own, not an organised tour! We were so thankful that God rescued her on several occasions when the situation was beyond her control.
Her next move was to London to a promised job and immediate payment. That disappeared once she arrived, and almost ruined her financially. Three weeks ago our daughter went off again, to take up a teaching position in South Korea. To us, it was a job that had sounded, ‘too good to be true’. Sad to say, it was!
The contract details were changed on arrival, and, when she asked questions, she lost her job.
We, along with other family members and friends, have really sought the Lord in prayer for her situation.
It is all beyond our help and control, but we are not without our faith and prayers.
We have no answers to her present plight, but can certainly identify ourselves with the prayer of Jehosaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:9,12,14,15, paraphrased here from the New International version:
“We will stand in your presence… and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.
We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.
Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel… and he said to them, This is what the Lord says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
Oh, how we take comfort in that last sentence!
There is no doubt that God has a plan and purpose for our daughter in this foreign land.
We have to pray, but then, ‘Let go, and let God’!
Past experience has proved that He knows best, and His timing is supreme.
