THE sound of fresh water flowing is music to the ears of Far South Coast folk.
Less than a year ago, rivers and creeks were dry, paddocks brown and water restrictions in force.
The drought eventually broke in the Bega Valley, but the dry months reinforced how essential fresh water is to life.
In the International Year of Fresh Water, it is timely that Valley Originals has Fresh Water for its winter and spring theme in 2003.
Artists and craftspeople have put their minds to creating a display that reflects all aspects of fresh water, from creeks, billabongs, rivers and waterholes to the wildlife that lives in and around them, and the uses that man puts fresh water to.
Whether the medium be wood, ceramics, paper, fabric, painting, photography, weaving, embroidery or the written word, the poetry of fresh water lends itself to creative expression.
Valley Originals, a gallery of quality arts and crafts produced within the Bega Valley is situated in The Old Bega Hospital, just south of Bega.
For 11 years the members of the co-operative have been producing original displays of fine art and crafts, and their winter themes are looked forward to by locals and visitors alike.
Don’t miss the Fresh Water Exhibition.
Valley Originals is open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, and every day during school holidays.
