THE Candelo/Kameruka bowls ladies played one game in their Major Singles championship round last week.
The game, played between Pauline Blacka and Betty Cochrane, resulted in a narrow win for Betty.
In a very close game all through Betty kept just ahead until end 18 where Pauline finally got ahead 17-16.
Pauline’s lead ended on end 20 at 18-all, then Betty went ahead for 10 ends only to see the score again 26-all.
It was then Pauline’s turn to lead for three ends, but only by one shot, 29-28; on the next end, which turned out to be the last after Betty got a three to get her over the line 31-29.
Two games of Consistency resulted in wins for Helen Drysdale against Betty Cuzner and Pauline Blacka against Betty Cochrane.
Helen and Betty’s game was very close throughout, Betty was ahead for first 2 ends and Helen after then taking the lead on end three just managed to maintain that lead to the end and was declared winner on end 27, 153-144.
The game between Pauline and Betty saw Pauline get her revenge for her narrow defeat in the Singles threedays earlier.
Pauline hit her straps early and led until end six when Betty was very temporarily in front 35-31.
It was 44-all on end 8 then Betty again went ahead for two ends.
Then on end 11, Pauline got in front 63-58; end 12 66-all.
From then to the finish Pauline kept ahead and ended the match on end 25, 153-122.
On the men’s scene one game of Triples resulted in a win for Reg Lennon’s team of Peter Lugano and Col Blacka over Augie Philipzen’s team of Gordon West and Kevin Anderson.
Reg went ahead from the start and kept up the momentum and won the game 26-15.
One game of Mixed Pairs resulted in a win for Eileen and Jim Brooks over Mary and Jim Tierney, 27-10.
The experienced Jim and Eileen were too good and Jim and Mary who would have learned from the experience.
At Social Bowls on Wednesday, Jessie Atkin’s teamed up with Col Blacka to give Bob Rodger’s team a lesson in the finer arts of the game and for their effort received the spoils.
Bob even let his partner, Doreen, down.
Saturday Jackpot not won, chooks went to Garry Taylor and Rhonda Sheehy.
Sunday, September 21, saw Peter Lugano and Pauline Blacka front the judges.
